Stacks On: How to Stack and Layer Decor Items

Bookshelves, consoles, coffee tables and more = amazing surfaces to showcase accessories, store items, and ultimately uplift a space!

Here are some tips we have to help you curate a beautiful display in your space; starting off with this vintage console table from Snowdrops Copenhagen below (check out our blogpost about incorporating vintage items into your space here!)

Step 1: Start with the larger items

Always start big! By placing your larger items first, you can balance out your space easier (especially if you are working with multi-layered surfaces like bookshelves). Here we have used a large print and frame from Desenio.

Step 2: Create pairings or trios

This is where you introduced mid-sized items such as this smaller print and frame from Desenio. This creates a balance in scale so that there is not such a stark difference in size between your larger piece and the smaller decor items you will be adding in the following steps.

Step 3: Add a stack of coffee table books

Totally optional, but creating a stack of books changes up the scale and direction of the items. It can also serve as a plinth for other accessories. Make sure the covers of your books match the overall theme and tones of your space - here are some tips we have for incorporating books!

Step 4: Infill spaces

And now in come all your smaller items: vases, candles, trays, and dishes are best for console tables and shelves! Here we have added this ‘Chenna’ glass vase and a pair of baskets underneath the console - both from House Doctor.

Et voilà!

Yay you are done! Use these steps all over your space, remember that less is more, and enjoy!
