Choosing the right colours
Choosing the right colours is extremely important when (re)-designing a work space. Of course, there are differences between personal preferences and job types, but some tipps can be applied in general. Blue is considered to be the most popular color choice when craving a stress relieving colour, as it may remind of the sky or the ocean. Other colours, which will help promoting a peaceful space are tan, purple, and even greens. In contrast, there are colours wich, according to color psychology, should be avoided as they aren’t optimal for the home office design. The color red is very high energy, which can cause anxiety levels to peak. Saturated shades, such as lime green, bright yellow & orange, can also be distracting and white might induce a tired feeling.
Decoration: less is more
Not only in the home office but in any office the motto for decoration is: less is more. Tidy and organised spaces help to promote concentration and can increase productivity. Nevertheless, to feel absolutely comfortable, the office space should still reflect your personality. A favourite, when it comes to office decoration, are family photos or really any type of photos you like. Create a gallery wall of photos that make you happy and provide a visual break for your eyes. Especially when working on remote it is important to still feel connected. Another great example for office decoration are plants. Incorporating greenery not only cleans the air but reduces stress and anxiety. Two in one!
Keep flowers at your desk
Keeping fresh flowers at your desk or in your working space will help boosting your mood. They are not only good for the eye but also give the whole home office space a special value. Instead of fresh flowers, dried flowers or plants can also be used; depending on your preference. Bringing the outside in will certainly make the remote-working atmosphere more bearable.
The right chair
What usually appears to be rather unimportant for many people is actually one of the most important things in the home office setting: the right chair. Since most people will be sitting at their desk all day it is important to do that in comfort, style and functionality. It’s important to find the right chair, ideally one that works ergonomically and reflects your style, and invest in it - you will not regret it.
