Onyx Matcha Club

A MATCHA BAR FOR LEONIE HANNE

Photographer: Nick Guttridge

Created with fashion and lifestyle icon Leonie Hanne, Onyx Matcha Club brings the clean, quietly sensual minimalism of Tokyo and Seoul's matcha bars to Motcomb Street. The whole concept grows from a single material: a monolithic counter in green onyx, its translucent veins glowing like freshly whisked matcha.

The front room is a study in restraint. Walls and joinery in Farrow & Ball's Au Lait, a seamless Kabric microcement floor by Detale CPH, brushed stainless steel and silver mirror let the stone take centre stage, while a green-glass Fiordaliso pendant by Sogni di Cristallo hangs above the bar like a drop of tea. Behind the counter, a La Marzocco GB5 S supplied by Clumsy Goat and a glowing "Glow to Go" fridge complete the ritual.

The back room slows the pace: a velvet banquette upholstered in JAB's Lennox, green onyx cube tables and stainless steel stools by Tig Metal. Downstairs, curtains in Zimmer + Rohde fabric and a WC clad in Claybrook's Formella sage mosaic carry the green palette through.

Outside, a Victorian awning and parasols in fern green by Beards Blinds, Ferm Living Dapple benches in tea green, Kave Home Brai chairs and stainless steel signage by Goodwin & Goodwin turn the pavement into an extension of the bar.
