Ushuaia

Ushuaia is a family holiday villa on the Atlantic coast, set in the pine forest at the foot of the Dune du Pilat, Europe’s highest sand dune. From the living room the eye runs straight out to the ocean. That view became the starting point for everything inside.

The brief was a home for long summers with many guests. It also had to respect the house’s history: the owner wanted to keep the original fireplace and ceiling. We built the new scheme around them. Our direction was relaxed, bohemian island living, a mix of bleached timber, natural linen, rattan and woven textures in sand, stone and driftwood tones.

Living and dining. The living area opens on one side to the beach and on the other to the pool. Deep sofas sit around the original fireplace, and an open dining area seats the whole house. We kept the owner’s art collection and hung it along the corridors, so new design and family history sit side by side.

Ten bedrooms. Each bedroom has its own character: a timber headboard in one, a split bed in another, and walls upholstered in linen by Maison Casal, hand-stretched by a Bordeaux upholstery atelier. Cushions and lamps come from House Doctor, mirrors from Athezza, and decorative pieces from Society of Lifestyle. The ground-floor bedrooms open directly onto the garden, with daybeds outside.

Downstairs is a world of its own: a private cinema, a gym, a library, a lounge, a large games room with a bar, and an indoor spa with a sauna.

Bathrooms are treated like a boutique hotel, with bath products by Meraki and candles and diffusers by UMAMI.

Outside, the pool terrace and garden lead towards the Atlantic. It is the most spectacular feature of the house and the reason everyone comes back every summer.
