Notting Hill - 2021

This one-bedroom apartment was fully renovated during the pandemic for a cosmopolitan owner who wanted a true home away from home in the city: no need to store a lifetime of belongings, just everything you need, beautifully done. At only 50 m², it proves that size is not what makes a home feel generous. With a new layout and every centimetre considered, it works like a five-star hotel suite: the perfect city pied-à-terre.

The palette is calm and tactile. A chevron floor by Benott in the tone “Wind of Change” runs throughout, and every wall is finished in our favourite lime paint, “Flannel Flowers” by Bauwerk. Because limewash can’t be used on kitchen fronts, kitchen and bathroom are finished in seamless microcement by Claudi Cemento. For a touch of drama, we partnered with Marazzi and used their Capraia marble-look ceramic for all the stonework, fabricated and installed by our stone partner Carrara Marble. The bespoke joinery was made by our long-standing joinery partner Leith Furniture.

In the living room, a reupholstered vintage sofa sits next to chairs from Zara Home and a lamp by 101 Copenhagen. It is proof that great design is about the mix, not the price tag. Restored plaster cornicing and a ceiling rose by Classic Cornice bring back the building’s period character. Around the dining table stand Kawa rattan chairs by House Doctor, lit by Lind lamps from Aromas. The kitchen hides its technology: a Bora induction hob with integrated extractor, a Gaggenau fridge and a gunmetal tap by Meraki.

The bathroom feels like a spa. There is a Bette steel bath, brushed black fittings by Vado, sanitaryware by Duravit from CP Hart, and the floating glass lights of Bocci. Details like black toggle switches by Dowsing & Reynolds tie the whole apartment together.

The finishing touches were hunted down at various antique markets, giving the apartment a story only a flea market can tell.
